Group Coaching and Prayer

Introduction

Both individual coaching and prayer and group coaching and prayer are vital for healthy disciple-making. Individual coaching allows for personal accountability, encouragement, and tailored growth in spiritual life, evangelism, and discipleship. Group coaching and prayer, on the other hand, creates space for shared learning, mutual encouragement, and corporate intercession. Together, these two settings help ordinary Christians grow strong in their faith while multiplying disciples and churches in the power of the Holy Spirit. How do we approach group coaching and prayer?

Participants of Group Coaching and Prayer

Group Coaching and Prayer is open to men and women, whether married or single. It is especially valuable for married couples, as it provides an opportunity to unite in shared mission, planning, and prayer. When husbands and wives partner together, their complementary strengths enrich both their family’s witness and their ability to strengthen and encourage younger couples in the faith.

Frequency of Group Coaching and Prayer

We recommend gathering the first three Saturday mornings of each month, for 75 minutes. Meeting weekly allows participants to stay encouraged, accountable, and focused on mission, while leaving the final Saturday free for rest, family commitments, or spontaneous outreach opportunities. This balance provides both stability and flexibility, helping the group persevere in multiplying disciples.

Format of Group Coaching and Prayer

1. Welcome & Opening Prayer (5 minutes)

2. Study & Discussion of a Core Document (20 minutes)

  • The group leader will ask participants to read one of the website documents before the meeting (e.g., Vision, Mission, 5-5-5 Network, a lesson from The Discipleship Series).

  • Review the main parts of the document.

  • Discuss the document through comments and questions.

  • Brainstorm about how to improve the document for future leaders.

3. Sharing Stories of Success & Struggle (20 minutes)

  • Break into small groups of 3–4 (men with men and women with women; or mixed men and women).

  • Prompt questions:

    • “Where have you seen God at work this past week or month—in your evangelism, coaching, or leading a community?”

    • “Where are you struggling—in your evangelism, coaching, or leading a community?”

  • Regather and allow a few groups to share short testimonies.

  • Celebrate breakthroughs and pray briefly over struggles.

4. Prayer Together (25 minutes)

  • Pray through the Purposes of Ministry Coaching:

    • Stronger relationships with God and others.

    • Introduce non-Christians to Christ.

    • Make disciples.

    • Multiply churches.

    • Pray for life and ministry.

  • Pray for specific people you want to evangelize or coach.

  • Consider a mix of whole-group prayer, popcorn-style prayers, and a few designated intercessors.

5. Closing Prayer (5 minutes)

  • Each person identifies one specific action step before the next meeting (e.g., “I will invite my coworker to coffee and share my testimony”).

  • Close with a prayer of blessing and commissioning.
